Margshala Kicks off with its First Workshop for Young People in Pithoragarh!

  • by

A collaborative project between Udhyam and India and Bharat Together (IABT), Margshala is a six-month transformational leadership program for people aged 18 to 25 in the district of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.

The program aims to bridge the gap between what young people aspire to do and the actions they ultimately take. Margshala’s goal is to enable young people to make free and informed decisions about their career pathways, followed up by positive action towards employment, entrepreneurship or education.

The first workshop of Margshala for 20 motivated young people took place on February 20, 2020, at Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, with the assistance of local partners Goonj.

During the first phase of the program, it has been planned to conduct career exploration workshops for 250 youth across the district. 25 of these youth will be selected based on motivations and aspirations for a longer, residential 6-week program where they will have access to mentorship, internships and exposure through field visits and interactions with professionals across four tracks:

  • Self-employment or entrepreneurship
  • Employment in the private sector
  • Employment in the government sector
  • Higher education and life-long learning

The February workshop was facilitated by Vikash Kumar, who is an experiential educator, founder of OLND and a 2020 Naropa Fellow.
